Heleen Coetzee is the head: Student affairs at Akademia and obtained a DPsych degree in Child and Adolescent Pathology and Therapy from the University of the Free State (UFS). She also obtained an MA degree in Clinical Psychology (cum laude) as well as an MA degree in Communication Studies and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (cum laude) at the North-West University (Potchefstroom campus). Coetzee’s current research focus is on attachment theory as well as the psychological well-being of mothers. She was a senior lecturer in Psychology at the North-West University (Potchefstroom campus) for thirteen years where she lectured Developmental Psychology at undergrad, honours as well as master’s level. She was the coordinator for the master’s programme in Clinical Psychology for ten years and also the residence mother of Vergeet-my-nie ladies’ hostel. She practises as a clinical psychologist and specialises in child and adolescent pathology and therapy. She started her career in 2002 as a student recruiter at the North-West University. Later she served as the deputy director of marketing and client services in the Marketing and Communication Department at the former PU for CHO. She served on the North-West University Council for three terms and is currently a member of the AfriForum board of directors.
