HOW DO I STUDY VIA THE FULL-TIME CAMPUS MODEL?

Via Akademia’s campus model, students study full time in the traditional way. Students attend compulsory contact sessions at one of the campuses in Centurion during the day. As with the after-hours distance model, students gain access to Akademia’s digital learning space, the Spens, where learning materials and support are offered. Contact sessions are interactive, and students can ask the lecturer questions directly or connect with fellow students in class. The campus model is set up with, among other things, a cafeteria, customer service centre, a library, as well as various student support initiatives. Students in this model will be included in an active student life.

HOW DO I STUDY VIA THE AFTER-HOURS DISTANCE MODEL?

Akademia’s after-hours distance model is attractive to students who cannot or do not want to study full time on campus. Many students choose to work or pursue other interests while studying. Akademia’s centres, where after-hours distance students attend class with their own laptops and headphones, are set up as neat co-working spaces with hot desks. Co-working spaces offer stable power and free broadband internet access on secure premises. The ideals of Akademia as a community university are embodied through these centres, as bonds are forged, conversations are held, and friendships are built. Akademia students (known as Fonties) who received approval to take classes via the e-learning option also join contact sessions online. In the times between contact sessions, the students’ learning process is guided by a leading learning management system called the Spens. After class contact sessions, the recordings are made available to students on the Spens within a few days. Here students can download video recordings of the contact session or study archive material. *Students are automatically allocated to a centre to attend compulsory contact sessions there. A special application can be completed to be considered for e-learning.
